Meet our Trustees

I’m Gary Streatfield and have been associated with the Trust for many years. I joined the Governing Body at Pelham when my eldest daughter, who is now at University, was in the infants and I have enjoyed being part of Trusts growth and development ever since. I work with the members, trustee’s and leadership teams to ensure that the high quality education we expect for our children is provided to all who attend our schools.

My professional background is also in education and I am currently a Deputy Headteacher in an East London Secondary school where I have responsibility for staffing, safeguarding and standards. I have experience of curriculum and pastoral leadership and use this to support and challenge those working within the trust. I have a firm belief that every child has the right to a good education, to feel safe, to be valued and to be given opportunities to be successful in the future. Away from education, I have a passion for sport and enjoy playing hockey and following non-league football.

Hello, I’m Derek Clements.

I am a trustee for Pelham Academy Trust. I am chair of the Audit Committee, a member of Pelham Primary School local governing body and Chair of Normandy Primary School local governing body.

I’ve been associated with Pelham Primary School for well over twenty five years. Our three children went to the school, and continued to do well afterwards! Our youngest is now twenty eight!

I’ve been associated with Normandy for even longer as I was one of its first pupils and left the school in 1956. Normandy was the trigger for the rest of my education at Dartford Grammar and then at Goldsmiths London. I became a governor of Normandy when it became part of the Trust in 2015.

I became a parent governor of Pelham while our boys were at the school. Since that time I have become other types of governor, such as LEA, but my aim has always been the welfare and success of the school’s adults and children. I am very proud of all that Pelham has achieved over the years. I am equally proud of the journey that Normandy has made in the last three years.

I was a secondary school teacher for forty years, teaching Maths and ICT in two schools in Bexley. Since retiring I have been involved in one-to-one and small group tuition at Pelham and small groups at Normandy, mainly teaching Maths, but this has now finished. I try to get involved with all aspects of school life, and make a point of attending events whenever possible, recording the proceedings via photography as well.

I also visit both schools regularly to monitor Teaching and Learning, and Achievement. I meet with the Head Teacher of Normandy in my capacity of Chair of Governors and discuss all aspects of the school’s life.

In my spare time I pursue my interests of photography especially involving our grandchildren, and listening to classical music, both on the radio and in the concert hall.

My Name is Nigel Marchant and I am a Trustee of Pelham Academy Trust. I previously worked for a Local Authority and had the pleasure of being the Clerk to the Governors at both Pelham Primary and Normandy Primary Schools for a number of years. At present I am self employed and work for a number of schools across Bexley and Kent.

The work of a Trustee is both stimulating and enjoyable and I joined the Board because I have a passion for education. I believe my skill will continue to help support the Senior Leadership Team shape the strategic direction of the Trust and ensure that we deliver a high quality education to all children regardless of their background.

Outside of work I enjoy most sports, reading and collecting cricket memorabilia.
